We care about each of our learners, which is why we provide the following support through out our programmes:

Tailored programmes

Our programmes can be tailored to learners. Speak to a member of staff to discuss options in more detail.

Key tutor

Key tutors are dedicated to helping learners navigate through the academic year, offering guidance and setting challenging tasks that encourage learners to aim high.

Well-being support

WS Training has a well-being team who will meet with learners on a regular basis to support with personal/wellbeing concerns.

Tutorials

During tutorial week, learners will meet with their tutors and discuss their qualification and the support required. It provides both learners and tutors the chance to talk about what has been learnt and how work experience is progressing.

Feedback & progress reviews

Progress reviews are conducted at the end of each term and emailed to the learner, providing an overview of their performance and next steps. Feedback is provided through conversation and is documented in every learner's portfolio, we encourage learners to use the feedback to help with their personal development.

How to apply

Step 1: Initial meeting

Once you have made your enquiry, you will be invited to visit our learning centre and have an initial discussion. This provides you and the admissions team with a chance to ask questions and get to know each other. Once an enquiry is made, the panel process will begin, where members of staff decide whether WS Training can meet your needs. If successful, an application link will be sent, and the enrolment process will start.

01

Step 2: Documents required

What documents do I need to submit with my application?
To submit your application to the panel we will need your full legal name, DOB, any education documents including EHCP, behaviour plans, youth justice reports, and educational psychologist reports or other documents relevant to your educational experience. Please be aware we may contact previous settings and Suffolk County Council (SCC) to obtain these.

02

Step 3: Selection process

The selection process goes through a panel of six staff, who will discuss each applicant on topics including individual requirements, interests, potential progress, safety and all other relevant needs. The panel will then vote to see if we can meet all the needs of the applicant. If your application is successful, you will receive an official acceptance via email. The panel convenes weekly; however, you should hear within 10 days of your application or 14 days after a consultation.

A well-rounded approach to skills development

We help learners develop a wide range of skills. From IT skills and enrichment activities to gaining valuable work experience, we acknowledge that every individual has their own strengths and areas for growth. This balanced approach supports learners to further develop skills in all areas, preparing them for future success.

English, mathematics and vocational studies

Our English, vocational, mathematics are functional skills qualifications that are an alternative to GCSEs. Learners working towards functional skills will develop their English reading, writing, speaking & listening skills and mathematics. A level 2 functional skills qualification is based on the skills needed to prepare for work and life and is equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 - 9. If a functional skill isn’t right for you, you can study English and mathematics as a vocational unit.

IT skills

Learners are encouraged to develop IT skills as this helps develop digital confidence and online safety. Being aware of staying safe online is crucial and being able to use a range of IT skills is required by workplaces. For example, tutors will ask learners to practice using different Microsoft programmes and keep a digital portfolio up to date.

Enrichment activities

Learners are encouraged to take part in activities such as visiting the WS Training allotment, exercise, sports and/or well-being walks. They’re also encouraged to take part in activities which celebrate key dates, religious holidays, taking part in enterprise activities and more.

Work experience

Work experience plays a role in many of our programmes. It provides learners with an opportunity to experience the world of work. Learn to work in a team, follow instructions, and develop skills employers value. We focus on matching learners with placements that align with their career interests.

Learner code of conduct

All leaners are provided with a code of conduct on how to behave and act whilst in the centre. This helps to develop the right behaviours needed for future success.

British values

Learners are provided with sessions focusing on British values. The sessions teach learners how to be better citizens in today’s modern world.
