Supported Internships are a structured, work-based study programme for 16 to 24-year-olds with SEND, who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP). The core aim of a supported internship study programme is a substantial work placement, facilitated by the support of an expert job coach for the young person to gain the skills and confidence to achieve their long-term careers goals.

Course Overview
Delivery Arrangements
Work placements will last at least six months and are attended a minimum of 2 days a week with support by a qualified job coach who is trained to offer personalised support. Learners will attend classroom teaching 1 day a week where individualised support will be agreed.
Course Breakdown
Learners will gain practical and real-life experiences, which support with preparation for employment. A focus will also be on gaining functional skills, employability skills, digital skills and life skills. Supported Internships not only help interns develop the transferrable skills and knowledge needed for employment, but can also help with improving confidence, self-esteem, and social skills. Functional Skills Mathematics and English will be offered to those who need to upskill in these areas.
Functional Skills will be delivered throughout the course with an assessment at the end of the course. Evidence of learning for the course is maintained through an online portfolio which is assessed throughout the course by the designated tutor.
Progression Routes
Once a young person has demonstrated they are ready for employment, we expect them to be supported to transition into a paid role.
