Course Overview

Team Leaders play a crucial role in small, medium, large, and multinational organisations across the private, public, and third sectors, serving as the backbone of first-line management and support for both teams and senior management.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide effective leadership while managing operational and project responsibilities. As a Team Leader, you will guide individuals and teams, offering direction and support to achieve set goals. Your leadership will be essential for ensuring smooth operations across all departments, while also ensuring compliance with legislation and organisational procedures.

In this dynamic role, you will interact daily with colleagues from various departments, including operations, human resources, finance, legal, IT, sales, and marketing. You will also engage with external stakeholders such as customers, clients, and suppliers, often in off-site or hybrid working environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting, managing, and developing team members
  • Planning and monitoring workloads and resources
  • Delivering operational plans and resolving challenges
  • Building strong relationships both internally and externally

Team Leaders often work within a network or diverse team settings. You will operate within established budgets and resources while reporting to mid-level and senior managers. While you may occasionally make decisions, your role primarily involves guiding and influencing others, utilising data to identify trends, analyse resources, and enhance efficiency.

Understanding the broader organisational structure is vital in this role. You will apply relevant codes of practice, legislation, and regulations, addressing legal, ethical, equity, inclusion, and sustainability impacts within your organisation.

Delivery Arrangements

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will benefit from monthly visits from a dedicated tutor, offering personalised sessions either remotely or at your workplace—whichever suits you best! Our blended learning approach combines these sessions with an online portfolio, where you can easily upload your work, allowing tutors and managers to track your progress seamlessly.

You will also be paired with a work mentor who will provide valuable on-the-job guidance, ensuring you apply your learning in real-world situations. As part of the program, you are encouraged to engage in 6 hours of off-the-job training each week (based on a 30-hour contract). We offer various flexible options to support this, including a range of masterclasses to deepen your knowledge and connect with fellow learners.

As you complete your training, you will transition to the Gateway Stage, where you will prepare for your End Point Assessment (EPA). This final assessment will require you to showcase the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed through a presentation with questions and a professional discussion focused on your portfolio.

Course Breakdown

As an apprentice, you will work towards earning:

A Level 3 Award/Certificate from the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), showcasing your leadership skills and enhancing your career prospects.
If you have not already achieved it, you will also complete Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2, ensuring you have the foundational skills necessary for success.

At the Gateway Stage, you will prepare for and complete the End-Point Assessment, demonstrating your readiness for the next steps in your professional journey.

Method of Assessment

Throughout this apprenticeship, you will compile a portfolio of evidence that highlights how you have successfully demonstrated the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for your qualification.

Your End-Point Assessment (EPA) will include: 

  • A presentation where you showcase your learning
  • A Q&A session to engage with assessors and demonstrate your understanding
  • A professional discussion to delve deeper into your experiences and insights

Additionally, you can complete your functional skills assessments conveniently, choosing between online or paper-based formats.

Progression Routes

A role in team leading can be your stepping stone to exciting opportunities, including project management or operations management positions. With this apprenticeship, you will gain the skills to advance your career and open doors to new possibilities.

And the rewards are immediate— On completion, apprentices may choose to register as Associate Members with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, to support your professional career development and progression.

Costs

For levy-paying employers, the maximum contribution for this apprenticeship is £5,000, while non-levy employers can access the program for just £250.
