Supply Chain Warehouse Operatives are vital in industries like logistics, retail, manufacturing, automotive, construction, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and even within the MOD. Warehouses in logistics may serve multiple clients or focus on a single customer, and to meet demand, they typically operate 24/7 with shift-based work patterns.
As a warehouse operative, you will work in diverse environments, from 5,000 to 1,000,000 square feet facilities, which may be temperature or humidity controlled and equipped with advanced racking systems and automated or robotic handling equipment. You may also manage outdoor storage areas, operating various mechanical handling equipment such as forklift trucks, cranes, pallet trucks, and reach trucks—all while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standards.
In most warehouses, mechanical equipment helps move goods seamlessly in and out of storage. Operations are supported by a computerised Warehouse Management System that tracks inventory, manages stock levels, and processes orders efficiently. Handheld scanners, connected to this system, enable quick identification of products and locations, ensuring smooth operations.
As a warehouse operative, your primary responsibilities will include safely handling goods, unloading deliveries, identifying, checking, and storing new products. You will also pick and repackage products for customer orders, which are then loaded for delivery. You will work closely with a variety of teams, including team leaders, warehouse supervisors, stock controllers, delivery drivers, and even customers, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations.
