Audience: The Process Leader apprenticeship suits individuals with responsibility for a process or team who are ready to take full ownership of performance and lead others through change. Employers set their own selection criteria, which typically include five GCSEs, A levels, a Level 3 apprenticeship or relevant experience. We will assess prior learning and experience before enrolment to confirm this is the right apprenticeship.
Course Overview: Process Leaders own the performance of key processes, using data and improvement methods to raise standards and guide teams through change. This apprenticeship develops the leadership, analytical and continuous improvement skills needed to manage a process from start to finish and deliver measurable results.

Delivery Arrangements: Apprentices receive monthly visits from a dedicated tutor, delivered remotely or in the workplace, alongside an online portfolio that lets apprentices, tutors and managers track progress in one place. A workplace mentor provides on-the-job support, and masterclasses help apprentices deepen their knowledge and connect with peers. This apprenticeship includes a minimum of 557 hours of off-the-job training, agreed with the employer at the start. Once all training is complete, apprentices move through Gateway into their End Point Assessment.
Course Breakdown:
As an apprentice, you will work towards:
- The Level 4 Process Leader apprenticeship standard
- Functional Skills in English and maths, where required
- End Point Assessment, completed after Gateway
Key Skills:
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop your performance management and process ownership skills, your ability to lead and motivate a team, and your use of improvement tools. You will also strengthen your:
- Performance data analysis and reporting
- Leading and embedding change
- Planning and delivering projects
- Managing stakeholders across the business
Method of Assessment:
Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices build a portfolio of evidence. The End Point Assessment includes:
- Workplace Observation and Q&A
- Project, Presentation and Q&A
- Professional Discussion
Progression Route: On completion, apprentices are well placed to progress into Operations Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager or wider leadership roles.

Professional Recognition: While this apprenticeship does not lead to a mandatory professional qualification, it builds recognised leadership and improvement competence valued across operational functions.
Cost: For levy-paying employers, the maximum funding band for this apprenticeship is £11,000. Non-levy employers contribute 5% (£550), with the government funding the remaining 95%. Apprentices aged 16 to 21 are fully funded for non-levy employers.
