IOSH Managing Safely - Remote Training

Course Overview: Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) Certified. Founded in 1945, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is Europe’s leading professional body for health & safety practitioners. The Institution works to advance the safety, health and welfare of people at work and those affected by Work Activities.

Course Objectives: The course is designed as an introduction to health & safety in the workplace. It concentrates on training the Manager to apply sound management principles to safety and health issues as part of a total management strategy.

To ensure Managers and Supervisors develop:

  • Understanding of how health & safety can and should be treated as an integral part of responsibilities, using the same general approach used in other aspects of the Manager’s work.
  • Knowledge of why incidents involving injury or damage occur.
  • Awareness of the specific procedures used in assessing risks, developing control strategies and evaluating performance.
  • Appreciation of the significance of attitudes to risk and of physical and psychological limitations of the causation of incidents leading to injuries or damage.
  • Acceptance of the responsibilities falling on employers and themselves in relation to safety and health and the procedures for dealing with breaches of those responsible.
  • Effectiveness in their communication of safety and health matters and those who work for them, with those they report to, and with specialist safety and health practitioners whom they approach for guidance; and
  • Recognition of the hazards likely to be present in their place of work and they type of action, which may be needed to control and manage them. It is not intended to cover a detailed description of technical factors, or the requirement of regulations and codes of practice.

  • Duties under HASAWA
  • Responsibilities under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Act 1992
  • Civil and Criminal liability and enforcement
  • Risk Management Principles
  • Identification of hazards and assessment risks
  • Strategies for controlling risks
