Our Study Programme NEXT STEPS is available for 16-19 year olds and is delivered from our sites in Ipswich and Colchester. This pathway is designed to provide students with a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development and progression in line with their career plans. The course is individually tailored to meet the needs of each learner and is developed with the learner to ensure long term goals and aspirations are considered and worked towards within the course. Next Steps is designed to help the individual to develop their knowledge and skills ready to move onto further education or employment.
The curriculum consists of an accredited vocational qualification which is agreed between the Tutor and student, taking into account future goals and employment desires. Each student will work towards the relevant Maths and English Functional Skills qualification, where a GCSE grade 4 or above has not been achieved. To be able to prepare for employment, all students will undertake work experience to give students the opportunity to develop their career choices and to apply their skills in real working conditions. The course offers an ‘insight into industry’ element for those students who are unsure as to what industry they would like to work within. This will allow students to gain further information and experience from different industries.
The Next Steps curriculum will also incorporate opportunities to develop entrepreneur skills through enterprise projects and enrichment activities to develop students’ character, broader skills, attitudes and confidence, and to support progression.
The main aim of this pathway is to develop the skills learners need to engage to progress further in work or access higher level learning. Learners will increase their development in areas such as:
Development of these skills will help prepare them to be able to participate with confidence in future job opportunities and further education.
The course is developed to be flexible and provide vocational experiences relevant to the learners’ aspirations. Learners will identify what is expected for them to work towards in line with future plans and opportunities. Learners will support by planning the main goals and hopes for the year ahead ensuring they have full participation in their development.
This course is a 3 day week programme with start dates at various points throughout the year.

We would highly recommend WS Training to parents of children who need that extra
support
in a caring and supportive environment, and knowing that they are learning in a fun,
safe place with dedicated, caring staff who want the best for your child and giving
parents the peace of mind that their children are well looked after.
My time at WS Training has been good. My Tutor and Student Support Advisor have really
helped me with my anxiety. Everybody has been patient and let me cope with my anxiety
and autism how I need to.
