Hairdressing and Barbering Level 1
Course Overview
This course will cover practical tasks include shampooing, conditioning, perming and knowledge tasks including the study of chemical reactions, technical and health and safety issues.

Assessments and Examinations
This course will cover practical tasks include shampooing, conditioning, perming and knowledge tests. GOLA Online tests, practical assessments and written assignments. Practical assessments are carried out in a realistic work environment on fee paying clients. A portfolio of evidence is compiled throughout the course and submitted for final verification.
Cost and equipment needed
Uniform – Black t-shirt & black skirt/trousers & no open toed shoes. Limited equipment is supplied by the Academy.
Text Book – to be supplied by the Academy
External visits by prior agreement with school head of year and training academy manager.
Entry Requirements
Course cost and start dates; requests must be made via a school head of year or connexions worker.
You will need to demonstrate an interest in hairdressing and that you have the potential to be a successful hairdresser. You will probably be following a GCSE program at school.
You will need to show that you can behave in a safe, sensible and customer-friendly way whilst you work in the salon.
Qualification
NVQ Level 1 Hairdressing. Equivalent to 4 GCSE’s at grades D-G.
Could lead to NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing or employment within the hairdressing industry. To be confirmed by the Hairdressing Academy Training Manager.
